Why Copilot is a safer alternative to ChatGPT

Seneca recommends Microsoft Copilot as a safer generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) platform than ChatGPT for student and employee use.

The reason for this preference is simple: safety. Microsoft developed Copilot with the safety and security of users and their information in mind – something that stands in contrast to ChatGPT.

Some of Copilot’s notable safety features

Prompts entered into Copilot by users and the responses generated as a result cannot be seen by Microsoft personnel, are not saved in the system and are not used for the purpose of training the underlying GenAI models.

Copilot, which is built on the same GPT-4 model as ChatGPT, can be accessed through the Copilot button in the top-right corner of the Edge browser or through Microsoft’s web-based interface.

For more information about how Seneca is ensuring the safety of students and employees who use GenAI tools, see the new Generative AI Policy.
