Why Should I Attend the Seneca Student Leadership Conference?

Students will have the chance to learn and put new concepts and skills into practice in an inclusive and educational learning environment that fosters and advocates peer-to-peer connection and co-learning.

By attending, you will:

· learn from experts and leaders across communities, fields, and organizations

· gain valuable leadership knowledge, skills, and experiences to enhance your leadership practice

· connect with Seneca staff, faculty, and peers that make up the Seneca community

· have a chance to win prizes through various activities, draws, and games

· have the opportunity to obtain a record of participation by completing a reflection exercise about the conference and your key learnings.

Can I obtain recognition for attending this event?

Yes. Conference Participants will have the chance to be recognized for their engagement in conference activities by receiving a Digital Leadership Badge. Badges are earned by registering with and participating in conference events, workshops, and initiatives and completing a reflection exercise. Reflection exercises differ across badges and are designed to assess learning for each specific leadership activity or initiative.

1. Register and attend a qualifying Student Life event, workshop, or initiative

2. Apply for the badge by completing the online reflection exercise

3. Await approval by a Student Life administrator

4. Share your badge digitally or print it to showcase your achievement(s)!

For the Winter 2023 iteration, students can obtain up to two (2) badges that acknowledge their participation in and reflection on leadership activities.

1) Creative Leadership Badge

To earn the Winter 2023 Leadership Conference Badge, students must attend BOTH leadership days (Day 1 and Day 2) in full and complete the online reflection exercise.

2) Seneca Serves Badge

Students who support Sustainable Seneca to address environmental waste across Seneca campuses for Day Three (3) (Seneca Serves Day) and complete the reflection exercise, will receive a Seneca Serves Leadership Badge for their participation in community service-learning. Students are not required to attend Day 1 or Day 2 of the conference to receive the Seneca Serves Badge.

Will the Conference be in-person or online?

The Winter 2023 Leadership Conference will take on a hybrid approach to delivery this semester, with Day One (1) happening in-person at Newnham Campus and Day Two (2) being offered online. The optional Day Three (3) (Seneca Serves Day) is a Seneca-wide service-learning opportunity where students can participate at various campuses in person. Spots are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Where can I find the link to Day 2 (virtual)?

Registrants for Day Two (2) will be provided with instructions and a link to join conference activities when registration closes on Sunday, February 26 at 11:59 pm EST. If you do not receive a link or email by Monday, February 27th, please email Service Learning and Leadership Coordinator at annalissa.crisostomo@senecacollege.ca

Will the conference be recorded?

Conference activities held in person (Day One (1) and Day Three (3)) will not be recorded, however, photos and videos may be taken to capture the event. Parts of the Day Two (2) virtual conference will be recorded, including the keynote speech, however, individual workshops held throughout the day will not.

Will there be a waitlist if tickets sell out?

Yes. There are limited tickets available for each conference day, so students are encouraged to register as early as possible. All other students will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified if spots open leading up to the event date(s).

Do I need a ticket for each conference Day?

Yes. Students must register for each conference day using the same registration link. Students without tickets will not be admitted to the conference events.

How do I sign up for the Individual workshops?

Day One (1) and Day Two (2) provide students with a variety of workshops for them to choose from and attend. Sign-ups for the individual workshops will be done the day of and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What is a Student Life Leadership Badge?

Student Life Leadership Badges are opportunities for students to showcase their engagement in various Student Life activities and events that are designed to address and support leadership interests and skills related to students’ personal and professional development.

How are badges earned?

Badges are earned by registering with and participating in events, workshops, modules, and other initiatives and completing a reflection exercise. Reflection exercises differ across badges and are designed to assess learning for each specific leadership activity or initiative.
