Malware (viruses, ransomware, etc.) is malicious software that harms computers and smartphones. Malware infections can occur as a result of:

• Visiting untrustworthy websites (e.g., software piracy, free video streaming, etc.)
• Opening harmful email attachments
• Failing to decline bundled applications during software installation
• Clicking links in Phishing emails

In addition to avoiding the above activities, install anti-malware software to help reduce the chance of infection. 

All Seneca-provisioned desktops and laptops are imaged with a pre-configured anti-malware solution.

Below are lists of free and commercial antimalware applications that you can use on your personally owned computers. Use your best judgment in selecting a personal antimalware solution, and note that Seneca does not endorse any vendor nor provide support for any software listed below.

Trend Micro Internet Security for students and employees

Seneca students and employees are entitled to a free copy of Trend Micro Internet Security to install on one Windows computer at home. For information on obtaining and installing this software please visit the Home Use page on the ITS website.
