Leaders Make Mistakes Too: Leading with Compassion and Accountability

Event
4/1/2023 10:30 AM 3:30 PM (Coordinated Universal Time)
Newnham, Building K, Room K3265

Event Name: Leaders Make Mistakes Too: Leading with Compassion and Accountability When Things Go Wrong

Audience: Open to all Seneca College Students

Date:  Saturday, April 1st

Time: 10:30-3:30pm

Location: Room K3265, Newnham Campus

Description: To err is human, and leaders are no exception. Sometimes we say the wrong thing, make decisions we regret, and fail to do what we promised we would. Mistakes might be inevitable, but the choices we make in the aftermath of our mistakes teach us and our communities lasting lessons about our values, integrity, and trustworthiness as emerging leaders.

In this full-day interactive workshop, participants will use creative journaling prompts, group discussions, experiential learning activities, and roleplay-based games to explore what it means to make a mistake and how we can practice accountability when it happens. We will discuss harm and the different ways it shows up for leaders and communities alike following a mistake. Using compassion as a guiding lens, we will learn strategies for listening, apologizing, and making amends for harm caused. Finally, we will develop practices to sit compassionately with our own feelings and reflect on our own experiences following the accountability process.

Leaders and future leaders from all walks of life are welcome in this workshop. The only prerequisites are an open mind, an open heart, and a desire to listen and learn from a wealth of diverse experiences, values, and perspectives.
